Hey, it's been about a month since my last post. So I guess you're wondering what I've been up to.
We lost our dog Kodiak. We had him for over 15 years and he's still very missed. That's been hard to deal with.
Add to that our roof needed replacing this year. Living in Florida means being ready for hurricanes, so we had to get that done ASAP. Not cheap.

But it's not all doom and gloom. There's always light at the end of the tunnel.
Elvira reached out to me, she's the BSides Tampa organizer and invited me to an ISC2 conference. I'd never been to one before. Met amazing people, networked a bit, and got to talk to one of the cofounders of Horizon3.ai.
I'm volunteering at BSides St. Pete this weekend, which happens to fall on my birthday. Bad because I won't be with my family most of the day. Good because I'm doing something I love meeting new people, gaining experience, getting out of my comfort zone.
I reconnected with my buddy Dave from Publix who's also in cybersecurity now. He's coming to BSides with me too.

I'm still on the fence about this whole school thing if I'm being honest. I know it'll be a huge accomplishment when I finish, but maybe I'm sour because the things I'm being taught, I've never experienced in my adult life.
I've had recommendations to pursue the OSCP and that's definitely on my radar, but the price tag is a letdown. I think I'm going to pursue CompTIA PenTest+ instead. It'll solidify my foundations in ethical hacking and help me build more confidence.
I rebuilt my website and resume this month. Made them honest. Made them actually reflect who I am.
